Q.

I am a host who wants to invite a visitor for classified discussions. What are the main things I need to know?
A.

There are a number of key issues Laboratory hosting organizations need to be aware of to ensure that the procedural requirements, many set by DOE, are met so that an incoming visit can be approved and the visitor badged by the time he/she arrives at the Laboratory. Please consult the guidelines concerning these key issues prepared by the Badge Office's Control of Classified Visits Program before initiating a visit request.back to the top of the page

Q. I know that a visitor getting a site-specific badge needs a current EIS record. What needs to be done?
A. Both the LANL host organization and the Badge Office's Control of Classified Visits Program have specific tasks to perform in order to ensure a visitor has a current, complete EIS record. Without a current EIS record, the classified visit cannot be tracked nor can a site-specific visitor badge be issued. Consult the detailed procedures for complete information.

Q.

What do I need to tell my visitor about coming to the Laboratory to make his or her visit go more smoothly?
A.

To help make a visitor's experience at LANL optimal, information concerning general security, badging, and practical matters provided by the host to the visitor in advance of the visit, can be extremely helpful and avoid a lot of unnecessary confusion and lost time upon arrival. The Control of Classified Visits Program suggests that hosts review some tips based on actual experience of what visitors may need to know. This Web page of tips is accessible to the visitor as well, so providing the URL to the visitor may be the most convenient way to prepare him or her.back to the top of the page

Q. How does a cleared visitor needing Sigma access to classified information obtain it?
A.

There is no one simple answer. Depending on the characteristics of the visitor and the nature of the visit, the requirements vary. The Badge Offrice's Control of Classified Visits Program has prepared summary information on the requirements for requesting Sigma access, depending on these factors - hosts are encouraged to refer to this information.back to the top of the page

Q. How do I find out the Sigma authorization of a LANL worker?
A.

The Badge Office's Control of Classified Visits Program only gets involved in Sigma requests relating to visitors while they are at LANL. It does not assign or check on Sigma approvals of Laboratory workers. However, Sigma approvals can be assigned by Laboratory managers through the Laboratory's Signature Authority System (SAS).
