Grounds for Confiscating a Badge

The following are grounds for confiscating a badge. The "principal agent" is the organizational element at the Laboratory authorized and primarily responsible for confiscating the badge. It is not necessarily the only one.

GROUNDS FOR CONFISCATION PRINCIPAL AGENT

Counterfeiting, intentional altering or tampering
  • Protective Force
Access suspended for cause (e.g., workplace violence)
  • Line Manager
  • Security Division
Clearance suspension or revocation
  • S-6 Clearance Processing
Use of a non-LANL site-specific badge to attempt to gain access into a LANL security area *
  • Protective Force
  • Badge Office

* Per policy as stated in the DOE document, DOE Badge Program (Paragraph 2(b), Chapter I, Volume II, Revision 1, April 15, 1999):

Sites shall not grant admission to anyone using a LSSO (Local Site-Specific Only) badge issued by another site. All LSSO badges issued by other than the local DOE safeguards and security authority shall be confiscated.

Badges confiscated will be "punched" by the confiscating agent - two holes will be punched in the badge - one through the portrait, one through the magnetic stripe.

An incident report will be prepared concerning the confiscated non-LANL site-specific badge, the issuing site's Badge Office will be notified, and the confiscated badge will be returned to that site.
