Requesting Sigma 14-15 for U.S. Visitors


Below are several sets of "visitor characteristics" - for each there is a corresponding summary of the procedures that need to be followed for a visitor who has those characteristics so that the visitor is properly approved for Sigma 14 or Sigma 15, as applicable.

Visitor Characteristics : Procedure:
  • U.S. citizen
  • Presents a valid DOE Standard badge at time of visit
  • DOE Q-cleared
  • 2-day lead time recommended
  • Host must have prior authority for Sigma 14 or 15 (depending on what is requested for visitor) as validated in the Lab's Signature Authority System (SAS)
  • LANL Q-cleared host completes and submits to the Badge Office Lab Form 1735 - purpose is to indicate that Sigma 14 or 15 is desired (but not to request a visitor badge)
  • Host requests approval of visitors Sigma 14 or 15 from the Lab Use Control Facility Coordinator (UCFC) or UCFC Administrator
  • UCFC notifies host if request has been approved or denied
  • U.S. citizen
  • Does not possess, or does not bring a DOE standard badge at time of visit
  • DOE Q-cleared
  • 5-day advance notice prior to date of visit recommended or delays may occur
  • LANL Q-cleared host completes and submits to the Badge Office Lab Form 1735 - on the form Sigmas desired must be indicated
  • Badge Office verifies clearance level in DOE/HQ database and notifies host
  • Host must have prior authority for Sigma 14 or 15 (depending on what is requested for visitor) as validated in the Lab's Signature Authority System (SAS)
  • Host requests approval of visitors Sigma 14 or 15 from the Lab Use Control Facility Coordinator (UCFC) or UCFC Administrator
  • UCFC notifies Badge Office's ClassifiedVisit Control Program if request has been approved or denied
  • Badge Office issues cleared U.S. visitor badge with approved Sigmas indicated on reverse side of badge
  • 5-day lead time recommended
  • LANL Q-cleared host completes and submits to the Badge Office Lab Form 1735 - on the form Sigmas desired must be indicated
  • Separately, DOE/HQ approves request (using DOE Form F5631.20 or equivalent) for Sigma 14 or 15 access received from visitor's organization
  • Badge Office notifies host of Sigma(s) granted - approval is required both by DOE/HQ and and the Lab Use Control Facility Coordinator (UCFC)
  • Badge Office issues cleared U.S. visitor badge with approved Sigmas indicated on reverse side of badge and sends host copy of Form 1735 showing Sigmas that have been granted
