Requesting Sigmas 1-13 for Foreign Nationals
Holding a Clearance from a Foreign Government
|
Below are several sets of "visitor characteristics" for foreign
nationals holding a clearance from a foreign government coming to LANL
on a classified visit. For each set there is a corresponding summary of
the procedures that need to be followed for a visitor who has those characteristics
so that the visitor is properly approved for one or more Sigmas in the
range of Sigma 1 to Sigma 13.

- Citizen of the United Kingdom
- Visit to LANL is under auspices of the 1958 Agreement for Co-operation
on the Uses of Atomic Energy for Mutual Defense Purposes Joint
Working Group (JOWOG)

- 5-day lead time recommended
- Host notifies LANL US/UK
coordinator of classified access visitor will require
- UK embassy contacts DOE/HQ/DP-43/Office of Security Support,
indicating classified access visitor needs
- DOE/HQ indicates classified access granted - this approval is
forwarded by the Badge Office to the LANL US/UK
coordinator and to the host
- All aspects of classified access permitted to be exchanged are
based on program, agreement, etc. - contact LANL's US/UK
coordinator for details
- LANL host completes and submits to the Badge Office Lab Form
1745 - do not indicate Sigmas on the form
- Badge Office issues cleared
foreign national visitor badge with classified access (but
not weapon data access) indicated on reverse side of badge

- Does not work for DOE or a DOE contractor
- Visit to LANL is not under the "1958 Agreement" (see
above)
